New Update!!!!!!! Since I wrote this Friday morning we got the very phone I talk about in this post later Friday evening....our adoption approval from Embraced by Grace! We are now ready and waiting to be chosen by a birth mother which could take a week or a year. All in God's timing. We are so thankful to have gotten this far in the process:) Thanks to all of you who have supported us in getting this far!
Well friends and family, I have been singing a song in my head all day. It's a variation from "All I want for Christmas are my two front teeth" but my own personal twist is "All I want for my Birthday is to Adopt". I have been so patient these past few weeks, waiting to hear from the adoption agency mentioned on the right hand side of our blog page, about our approval. This approval would begin the process of showing birth mothers our profile and perhaps being chosen to adopt a child (or children, as we have said we will adopt up to 3 siblings). It has taken a bit longer than usual due to the holiday season and the board members not being able to get together. If we don't get the call today I'm hoping before Christmas! What a wonderful Christmas gift it would be!
A little birdie told me that we have a special friend in Utah who has contacted our friends reminding them that donations to our adoption account would be the best birthday present for me, and I agree! So thank you to those that have donated to us already! Our donations have reached $640!! Woohoo! Thank you! This has paid for our Home Study ($500) and helping us recoup our Application fee of $250. All fees for this agency begin around $13,500 but due to the various birth mother situations (whether they have insurance, rent, etc) the fees can run as high as $20,000.
We are not delusional about the very emotional ride this process can become. I have a friend at my church who is also adopting and in the past year has been chosen 3 times, and also rejected by those same mothers 3 times! A heart wrenching situation. My heart aches for her as she is going through these disappointments. If anyone is suffering the same kind of situation, she said a book helped her through this called "Hannah's Hope" based on my favorite story in the Old Testament, Hannah and Samuel. A true mother's story, whether adopted or biological. Our children are not ours, we are given an important responsibility by God to raise our children to know the Lord personally and with a sense of purpose. We are going into the adoption process with eyes wide open.
In the meantime, I am looking forward to my favorite gift tonight, time alone over dinner with my hubby.
We appreciate all of your support, prayers, donations, and well wishes!
Love, Jen

Fall News
It's been a long time...I know! I'm sorry. I, like many of my friends, have been spending the only time we have posting to Face book, that I forget to write anything here for those that aren't on that website. I apologize. Are you ready for an update though?
We have all been busy so far this new school year. Mikayl is in 6th grade now, with anywhere between 1-3 hours of homework a night. Ridiculous! Her high grades have maintained and she is doing some really exciting things. Her class is learning how to play the Ukulele. They had a concert on Halloween playing some very familiar songs (Christmas songs) with a twist; they had Halloween lyrics. Very funny! She is also broadcasting as a news anchor on her school's news station! The opportunity to be a part of the "news" at school is based on good grades and ability to "perform". Well she's our girl! She has been allowed to be an anchor for 3 weeks straight. I guess they like the job she's doing reading the teleprompter:)
Jefferson has joined a band at our church, one of 11 or 12 I believe. He plays acoustic guitar and sings 2-3 songs once or twice a month during 2 Sunday morning services. So far his 3 main songs are "It is well with my soul", "You are so good to me", and "How Great is our God". He practices almost everyday and is learning so quickly. I'm amazed at how quickly he's been picking up this new talent. He has been working and waiting for this opportunity for 2 years and I"m so happy to see it finally happening. He would rather serve our church family in no other way.
I (Jen) have been really busy with Real Estate lately, praise God! The economy has taken a toll on our savings over the past 2 years, as I'm sure it has on most of you. I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel though. We are just thankful to have jobs and to be able to keep our home, which I know many are still fighting for. My Wednesday morning woman's bible study is still strong with an average of about 8 people this year. We have bonded through heart ache, laughter, and learning God's word and I'm so thankful for all of them. If any of you are in the Herriman area, feel free to join us! Coffee is on me:)
We also finally have a back yard where the dogs can run free and we can all hang out as a family together eating meals and sharing with each other. It has been so nice to enjoy the fall weather our on our patio, especially rare in Utah!
Also on the adoption front...we are mailing in our application to our adoption agency today! Embraced by Grace is a non-profit Christian based agency that is run mostly by volunteers to help families adopt. They try to help by raising donations so that our out of pocket expenses are almost nothing, if at all. So far it has been an easy process, and the people there are wonderful. You can see Toby Mac talking about this organization on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xshftQ49bDA or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc9i9vchZrM&feature=related. We are all so excited to get going on this new journey. Mikayl is especially excited to have some siblings in our home. She has been the one constantly reminding us to "hurry up already"!
I'm not sure if I've left anything out. But I will update on our adoption process as soon as we have news, i.e. getting matched with a birth mom, etc. Please remember that we would prefer any gifts for birthdays or Christmas to go directly into our adoption account rather than into our checking account for spending on ourselves. The instructions for donations are on the right side margin about how to donate to our adoption goals. All agencies recommend asking for donations to help with the cost. That is our main focus right now, and if you can be a part of it, thank you. If not financially, please pray for us to do God's will.
Love to you! The Martin's

Adoption News
This has been in the works for about 2.5 years now, ever since Jefferson and I met, the discussion of adoption would be in our future. When we got together I had a "sense" that I wouldn't be allowed to physically bear children, I don't know why, I just thought that I was being prepared for that prospect. So before we made a commitment to one another I wanted to make sure Jefferson was on board with the idea. I had no idea that he was adopted by his own grandparents and is so grateful they did, and he didn't know that my own mom was adopted too. It runs in our family on both sides, and we then realized that we both have a heart for adopting.
We didn't find out anything was actually going to keep us from having our own children until Jan 2008, about 6 months after we were married. Jefferson had some surgeries in Feb 2008 to correct our infertility, but the results were not impressive. The issues were not improving enough so we decided to go through AI treatments(Artificial Insemination - not to be confused with the more invasive IVF procedures) which, thankfully, our insurance helped pay for. After 4 attempts over a 6 month period in Fall '08 thru Winter '09, we realized that we were tired of "trying" to make things happen ourselves and stopped all medical enhanced procedures. Instead, we have decided to move our focus onto adoption and if we are meant to get pregnant someday, so be it.
The decision to actually go forward with the adoption process (paperwork) took all summer to take place. I was so fearful of opening my heart to the idea of actually having a baby in our home soon that I didn't want to start the process until all of the funds needed ($20-30K) were sitting in a bank account. After meeting and talking to many women who are undergoing similar infertility & adoption experiences, we decided to start the process by getting our Home Study complete (as of today we are 90% done!) and then start the finance and advertising campaigns. This week we completed most of our home study with only about 2 weeks left for 1 background check to process. At that point we can start looking for a woman in need of adoptive parents for her unborn baby. A private adoption can save us thousands of dollars. We are hoping to forego an adoption agency and find a mother through a word of mouth grapevine. This will cost less than $10,000! A significant difference!
This is where you all come in. We have been humbled to realize that we will not be able to do this alone. We understand that we are in need of help to make this a reality. We also know that networking is so important in this process. So we have started with 2 things and hope you might be willing/able to help us with them...
1) We opened a special savings account for our adoption. If you look to the RIGHT of our blog page we have a "Donation" button. This is a link to our Paypal account, which is directly linked to our special adoption savings account. We are asking for donatins to help us save up the money we need to move forward should a birthmother be found for us. We will post earnings here every month as donations come in. We have started selling items locally so we can apply all earnings to this account as well. As of tomorrow, we should have $500 donated into this account which will be used to pay for our home study.
2) We are sending this blog post, and I've already sent an anouncement on facebook, that we are looking for a birthmom. We realize all of you are spread out around the country, and have your own networks with in your own communities. If you would all be willing ot keep your ears open for new about an expectant mother considering adoption for her baby, please jsut let us know.
We have already been hearing about possible matches, but nothing has panned out yet, so we are still waiting. Until then, we thought we'd get you all started on our own grapevine.
We want you to know that Mikayl is super excited for this adoption to take place too. We have been preparing her for this possibility in our family for 2 years now. I wanted to wait after our first year of marriage before we had anymore children anyway, so she would know how much we love her and to make sure she has a strong relationship with me and her dad as our first child together. She may not be mine by blood, but I love that girl as my own and would die for her. She says she knows this for certain and has been bugging me about getting our adoption paperwork done for months now. When I remind her of our reasons for waiting, she says to me, "I know already and that was a year ago! Get on with it already!!" Sometimes I think she is more excited and ready than we are!
Thank you in advance for even considering to help us out. We also know that many of you will want to, but simply can't. In that case, we would love your prayers to be with us. We believe prayer is more powerful than money or word of mouth anyway, so that would bless us greatly!
Gratefully Yours,
Jen & Jefferson Martin

Latest stuff...
Just to paly catch up on my summer activities...I have been training for a 5K race for most of the summer (about 2 months) with girlfriends who live around me and attend my bible study. We are like the Herriman Posse with children in tow on bikes, scooters, in strollers and actually jogging with us!In this 1st photo are a few of the women who have been joining us, 3x a week @ 8:30am. Whew!
This was the final result. We went to the 5K race to help fight Bulimia and Anorexia called "Love Your Body" this past Saturday. It was awesome. Gorgeous morning, beautiful park, and we all had awesome times. Thanks girls for helping me get this goal accomplished!!
Mikayl...our 6th grader!!! Her last year of Elementary School began yesterday and when we talked to her last night, she sounded so great. She had fun, was excited about going back today to join her friends, and anticipating all the events the new school year will bring. We knew she would love it, even though there were some nervous feelings before she got there. We are so proud of you honey!! But quick growing up so fast!
Now for a different update, not as pleasant. My little Noah had surgery again to replace the medicine pump in his abdomen and connected to his spine to help loosen his muscles due to his CP. While Crys and Jeff were at the hospaital and at home with him the last 4 days, I have had the privilege of spending lots of time with little Ava. Oh what a joy she is! We all just love her, but out of the 3 of us (Jefferson, myself and Mikayl) she loves Jefferson the most. She always goes to him and sits with him. I think its partly because he looks a little like her daddy with dark hair and facial scruff. Anyway, I have just loved my time with her, despite the reason is because of Noah having to go through such a hard time.
Speaking of Noah, his 1st day home yesterday was full of keeping NOTHING down, getting sick all day. Poor guy. That kid has the best disposition though. He is throwing up and crying one minute and dancing and singing (while lying on his back of course) to Gabba Gabba! He is so stinkin sweet. He just brings a smile to my face.
The Harpers are being taken care of through meals from all of us who love them, and babysitting. They sure could use your prayers though.

Worship '09 - more than just music!
We too went to the Gallivan Center last night, sat by the Harpers (check out her blog to see her side of the story on "Kisses, Giggles, and Little Toes" or "Harper Family"on my sidebar) to listen to some music, but we ended up watching some miracles transpire.
Noah Harper was born just 4 years ago with little to no chance at even making it out of the hospital because my little guy was born at only 25 weeks premature. He fought and we prayed and we have been allowed to spend all of these years watching him blow us all away with his abilities.
Well he recently went through a really challenging surgery where he received a new medication pump that injects him with a drug that helps his muscles relax (stiffness due to CP - Cerebral Palsy) enough to do things we never thought possible in ways of standing, walking, using his left hand, etc. Well last night I witnessed him do things physically and socially that still brings tears to my eyes. He has come such a long way!
At first, he was being his usual sweet self hanging out with his parents, Jeff & Crystal, and me and my husband Jefferson, all of which he is familiar with. Jeff & Crystal walked off for a minute and left Noah on my lap. Suddenly he is crawling off my lap, sitting next to me on the same curb, and starts scooting down about 3 feet away. He is scooting over to a little girl from our church! I am cracking up laughing watching this event. He is not very social, not with people he doesn't know, although he is very charming. Remarkably, this little girl stays there and is so friendly to him and they quickly became friends. He shares his toy, he follows her around, they dance together! They did this for like an hour! I couldn't believe it!
He then moves onto other girls, and all of their parents, making himself comfortable laying against them, clapping to the music we were there to listen to instead of freaking out from the noise and crying uncontrollably. Who is this kid? Is this really my Noah? YES!!
Jefferson was busy entertaining Ava much of this time who was giving all of us hugs and dancing with Red Vine juice all over her face...so cute!
As we left last night I just started crying telling Jefferson what a praise this all was. He didn't know Noah when he was born, but I was there. I held him when he came home after 4 months on oxygen. I was there when the doctors didn't think he was going to live! He is only doing all of this because God has given us this gift of life in him. I am so blessed to know him and witness his miraculous progress year after year. His mother and I were having the time of our lives, and sorry to all of you performers...we didn't pay much attention to you. We were in awe of this amazing kid.
Please view the cute pics below!!

Easter '09
Sorry its taken me awhile to get this post out. I've had the pictures but have been so busy.
We joined our Martin/Forsyth/Bennenbroek families for Easter Sunday after church. We had a good ol fashion yummy Thanksgiving style dinner and enjoyed listening to my handsome hubby play some of his new tunes (he's preparing for his first debut at our church on Men's Night next week). Our neices Meggan & Mattie and boyfriend Bradon each won $10 on the Easter Tree(I guess that's what we're calling it). We all played with the dogs and then had a nice long time ot visit with just Meggan, not an opportunity we get all the time since she lives down in Cedar City by school.
Then we met up with the Eichner clan at our house for a annual Easter Egg & Scavenger Hunt officiated by my very creative mother. She outdoes herself every year. She spends hours coming up with games and ideas for these things and they turn out to be so fun. The girls got to look for eggs with candy and money and clues. The clues were matching hanging clues that eqach had an activity on it. 12 in all and they including such things as singing your facvorite song in a silly voice, face painting, writing your name backwards, and saying Hannah Montana 10 times fast. It was hysterical watching Mikayl, Sami & Remy jumping through all of these hoops. Its also fun because now they can all read the clues themselves. Good job Momma!

Colorado Trip (Pictures below)
I forgot to write about that last slideshow of pictures. Jefferson and I had a chance to head to Colorado for a marriage conference and see some old friends that used ot live in Utah.
Forst we made the long drive to Fort Collins, CO to visit with the Longoria's. Man were we glad they weren't busy while we were there. We ended up going the day before Colorado's biggest snow blizzard all winter! We were supposed to head to Estes Park early to visit with our friends the Cotner's who were going to meet us from Pueblo, CO but couldn't risk the dangerous drive. So thankfully The Longoria's were able to put up with us for one more night and the kids seemed pretty excited to have company again. Then we got to spend the morning in Loveland with The Meyer's for breakfast. It was awesome to see Cindi, and her healthy pregnancy, and sepnd time with all the boys (yes that includes Tom). Tom's parents were visiting so we got to spend some time with them admiring their adorable grandkids playing and beating Jefferson at their favorite games. After watching the storm grow outside the windows, we decided to head back to Fort Collins. The next morning we woke up to gorgeous clear blue sky weather and made the drive up to Estes Park. We had fun walking around town and checkign out a local hike near town.
The marriage conference was great. We had a nice time with some other couples and meeting in a session for couples dealing with infertility & adoption. We were all able to share our own stories, struggles, and goals. As soon as we left I asked Jefferson what he thought and much to my pleasing surprise, he said we need to get home and start on adoption paperwork right away! That just thrilled me. For all of you women out there, you know eager and impatient we can be and our husbands (at least mine) reminds me to slow down, think things through, be cautious. But this time, he was totally on board and we realized that it was our path. As soon as I told Mikayl we would finally be starting the paperwork process (she's known this is an option for us for 2 years now), she made some amazing comments that made me realize that we, as a fmaily, were all on the same page and that we are all meant to welcome a child into our home through adoption. I can't tell you what a refocussing and relief it has been to focus on gettign our finances in order to be ready to adopt without any loans.
We will be setting up an adoption account and asking for help through donations to save up for the costs which usually run about $20,000. As soon as I get the account opened I will be sending that info out. Thanks to those of you who have already mentioned wanting to help us in this way. You are a blessing to support us! Thank you!

I thought I had lost these pictures from Christmas after my computer crashed, but I found them!! We spent the weekend before Christmas in Park City with the Eichner side of the family. My mom Judy, both of my brother's Mike & Quinn, sister-in-law Chip, 2 neices Sam & Remy, and of course Mike's dog Bella and our little Oreo. We had fun playing rock band, watching movies, eating lots of good food, sledding, and making cookies :) Enjoy!

Finally! Christmas '08 Pics
I just got my computer back from Cirsuit City after it crashed over Christmas(good thing it crashed when it did or I wouldn't have a company to hold accountable ot fix it!)

We had a great break with Mikayl for about a week. We did a lot of cooking, one of our favorite hobbies together. We made a Chocolate Cherry pie! Chrismtas eve we went to the Utah Skating Oval with our friend Megan. It was her first time but she picked it up right away. Mikayl got her bearings again quickly after not being on the ice since last winter. We all spent the day there while Jefferson worked.

That evening we all went to the Martin's and had, what I called "a NY Deli" dinner which was very yummy. Then we listened to Jefferson read the "Night Before Christmas" with a different accent for every page. So hilarious! And we watched the annual "Christmas Vacation" movie.

After we got home we all got in our jammies and watched Elf before falling asleep pretty late. Mikayl let us sleep in the next morning until 7:30am. We took our time opening presents individually after reading the true Christmas Story about Christ's birth. The rest of the morning was spent relaxing together until Mikayl got picked up to see the rest of her family.

It was a total blizzard all Christmas Day. We were stranded in our house all day! It was so fun!

Oreo got a few new outfits from our friends the Stevenson's, and one of them was this adorable Santa outfit! Perfect in the snow storm.
